(Dog Magazine.net) Outrage as healthy greyhounds put to sleep at retirement

Local greyhound rescue workers have expressed shock and outrage after a trainer who races dogs at the Henlow track had four healthy greyhounds “put to sleep” by a Hitchin vet.

Joanne Page, who trains greyhounds at kennels near Sandy, took the ex-racers to be “put down” at Berry House Vets in Hitchin last Wednesday.

Her actions caused shock and outrage throughout the local branch of Greyhound Rescue West of England, after one of their volunteers, who was in the vets at the time, tried in vain to save the dogs.

Greyhound Action are calling on the public "not to attend or bet on greyhound racing" - although I have to ask myself, wouldn't that just cause more dogs to be put down as races are cancelled and the sport declines?

Mollie's little family

On Sunday we went to Elvaston Castle, near Derby, and met up with Mollie's previous owner and her two dogs Murphy and Deezal.

Murphy - in the middle - is the father of Mollie's pups; and Deezal is one of their pups. Aren't they a good-looking little family? Mollie got on really well with both of them, although Murph had a bit of a one track mind and kept trying to get his leg over. It was really lovely - and all three dogs were utterly shattered afterwards!!
